A tumor vasculature-based imaging biomarker for predicting response and survival in patients with lung cancer treated with checkpoint inhibitors

Science Advances,   November 25, 2022
This paper uses QVT and delta-QVT- a radiomic feature family - in lung cancer patients undergoing immunotherapy (n= 507 patients training + testing). QVT predicts patient response and survival. This non-invasive (radiology) approach can improve patient selection for immunotherapy trials and identify patients most likely to benefit. QVT is directly tied to tumor biology, and can serve as a biomarker for targeted therapies (VEGF- anti-angiogenic).

Abnormal tumor vasculature (measured by QVT) helps maintain an aggressive cancer's microenvironment (hypoxia, acidosis, and create a physical barrier to the immune system). Early changes in this structure can indicate a treatment is working.
