This study developed ATLS-8, an AI-driven scoring system that quantifies CD8+ tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) from whole-slide images to assess prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients undergoing liver resection. ATLS-8 demonstrated strong predictive value across three cohorts, with higher CD8+ TIL density correlating with improved 5-year overall survival (OS).
This automated system enhances immune microenvironment assessment and could be integrated into clinical decision-making for HCC prognosis and immunotherapy strategies.
