Anti-angiogenic therapy has been used in NSCLC for two decades, yet no biomarker identifies who benefits.
This study evaluated the QVT (Quantitative Vessel Tortuosity) Score, an automated, interpretable imaging biomarker of chaotic tumor vasculature calculated from CT scans, in 334 advanced non-squamous NSCLC patients from the SWOG S0819 trial treated with carboplatin/paclitaxel with or without bevacizumab.
Patients with high baseline QVT Score derived a marked survival benefit from added bevacizumab, while low-QVT patients did not, suggesting QVT can identify vascular phenotypes sensitive to anti-angiogenic treatment.
