Identifying primary tumor site of origin for liver metastases via a combination of handcrafted and deep learning features

Current methods for identifying the site of origin of liver metastases are unreliable, making treatment selection difficult. This study shows promise using hand-crafted and DL features to analyze H&E stained tissue and identify the original cancer site. This could improve treatment selection for patients and allow for more targeted clinical trials for specific cancer types that have spread to the liver.
